Kendall Washington Obituary

Kendall Dwight “Luke” Washington was born August 27, 1978 to Clara Mae Washington and Dwight Alford Whittaker. A member of the Mackey Branch No. II Baptist Church of Whatley, he was a faithful and dedicated servant. Kendall left this life on April 20, 2024.

Kendall attended Jackson High School, later attending Gadsden Job Corps where he studied to be a brick mason. Later, returning to Gainestown, he met the love of his life, Nita. After various jobs, he was given the opportunity to pursue a career with Kirby Inland Marine as a tankerman and onboard trainer (OBT). Kendall was employed with Kirby Inland Marine for 24 years.

He loved people. In Proverbs 18:24, Solomon writes, “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” Kendall was that friend. He never met a stranger. His love for people and showing love was contagious. He was a forgiver. His heart was so large, he didn’t know how to give up on people, because he always believed the good in people that he loved and cared for.

Kendall loved his family. Kendall and Nita met in 1999 and were married in 2006. They were together 25 years. From their union they had two children, Kelsie and Gavin. He made sure to be active in the lives of his family members, taking family vacations every year and cooking for the entire family when he was home from work.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, uncles and sister.

Left to cherish his memories is his devoted wife, Anita Washington; children, Kelsie and Gavin Washington; parents, Clara (Bennie) Jemison and Dwight Alford Whittaker; four brothers, Thurston (Shenitha) Washington, Dwight Wyatt and Bennie (Temeaker) Jemison, Corderryl Jemison; one sister, Shanda (LaKendrick) Howard; father and mother-in-law, Robert Hollins and Lynda Hollins; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Christopher Hollins, Denise and Rederick Hollins, Jennifer and Darryl Perryman, Sharon and Robert Hollins, Cortez Hollins, Francesca and Dale Washington, Stephanie Williams, Zasque and Ted McMillian, Brandy and Shamus Hudson; devoted brothers in Christ, Tremayne (Rachel) Nicholson and Rikko (Misty) Gaston; godchildren, Sergio Washington and Daylen, Trinity and T.J. Nicholson; with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
