Rev. James Sigler, Sr., entered this life on October 13, 1933 in Hybart, AL. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and well respected in the communities where he lived. During his journey here on earth, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. A longtime resident of Whistler and current resident of Camden, AL. he was a faithful servant to those who needed him. He peacefully departed this life on October 1, 2019 at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, AL at the age of 85.
Known to the locals was "Deac.," "Rev" or "Pops" he enjoy laughing a lot and seeing others laugh. He always made himself available to help others and was known to have a good story or a joke to share. As he transitioned from this life, according to the nurses, they laughed together to his final hour. A Big Man with a Big Heart, that lead by example. He often reminded people to "treat others the way you want to be treated" and help people when you can. For over twenty years, he provided young men with employment opportunities, while working as a foreman at Baird Steel Company. He also was a dedicated member of Third Baptist Missionary Church, where he served on the Deacon Board and numerous other committees. His hobbies were watching baseball (Atlanta Braves) football, sitting talking with others and gardening until his health declined.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Matilda (McCants) Sigler, Sr., his previous wife and mother of nine children, Pearlie Mae (Risper) Sigler, sons, James Jr., and Dewayne Sigler, daughter, Janifer Cunningham, grandsons, Raheem Hunter and Brandon Sigler, great-grandson, Dewayne Sashner, Jr., brothers, Peter, Robert Jr., Tallie and Julius (Spook) Sigler and sisters, Allie White and Geraldine Franklin. He was the eldest son of fourteen children.
He leaves behind memories of his wife of twenty-two years, Mary Sigler of Camden, AL.; two sons, Charlie Sigler and Byron (Jessica Bones) Sigler, Sr. of Mobile, AL; six daughters, Cathy Irby Durant of Duluth, GA., Sherrell Dunn of Buford, GA., Belinda Goode of Jonesboro, GA., Jacqueline Knight of Ellenwood, GA., Nina Gordon of Mobile and Shanta Cunningham of Camden; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two brothers; Lewis (Ida) Sigler of Lawton, OK and Karlic (Spudnick) Sigler of Mobile, AL.; five sisters; Marie Mosley of Brooklyn, NY, Hester Gray, Annie (Willie) Olds, Mary Hawkins and Cynthia James of Mobile, AL; a devoted mother-in-law, Janie Cunningham; sister-in-laws; Stephanie (Roosevelt) McWilliams, Clara (Tony) King, Betty Cunningham; brother-in-laws, Andrew Cunningham, Johnnie (Estella) Cunningham and J.D. (Coretta) Cunningham; a host of nieces, nephews other close relatives, family and friends.
