Lillie Mae Taite Thomas Moultrie traded time for eternity on Thursday, January 16, 2020 while at her Grove Hill, AL residence. Born January 3, 1930 to Elmore and Earnestine Coates Taite in Scyrene, AL, she was 90 years of age.
Lillie was educated in the public school system and went on to complete her certification as an LPN leading to her lifetime of working in hospitals and private home nursing care. This coincided well with her love of people, always willing to do what she could to help people, particularly youth. She united early in life with the Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church in Grove Hill and later united with Wilson Chapel AME Church in Grove Hill, AL. A motherly figure within her church and community, she was also a founding member of the Progressive Pearls Social Club in NY where she and her fellow members raised money to send young people to summer camps. She was an avid collector of elephants and miniature shoes, and loved gardening at all hours of the day and night especially roses, mums, and sunflowers. Travel was special to her going to places including Hawaii, Mexico, Caribbean, Alaska and other US territories.
Preceding her in death are her husbands, Willie James Thomas, and Wilbur Moultrie; parents, Elmore and Earnestine Taite; five sisters, Minnie Mae Martin, Juanita Taite, Ella Baldwin, Rena Mae Greene, and Voncile Love; and brother, Annanis Taite.
Left to forever cherish her precious memories are her son, Willie James (Barbara) Thomas, Easton, MD; daughter, Veronica Thomas, Mobile, AL; a goddaughter, Tammy Dudley, Somerset, NJ; stepson, Donnell Moultrie, Jamaica, NY; two stepdaughters, Brenda Gayle Moultrie (Norris) David, Jamaica, NY, and Sharon Moultrie, NY, NY; sister, Floretta Dickinson, Dickinson, AL; brother, Thomas J. (Mary) Taite, Grove Hill, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
God blessed Lillie with excellent caregivers including Iris Hunt, Gloria Brown, Carrie Phillips, Alice Dickinson, Cynthia Fox, Edrice Love, Laura Lewis, Sondra Watkins-Shamburger, the late Eunice Chapman and the late Dorothy Bettis.
