Affie Horn Obituary

Affie Marie “Ree” Horn, a native of Whatley, Alabama, was born to Ira “Duke” Wilson and Lucille Horn on February 20, 1955. On June 13, 2024, the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She leaves behind a legacy of love and sweet memories and will be forever missed and cherished by family and friends.

Affie, affectionally known as “Ree”, grew up in the Indian Ridge community. She was the second child of six and quickly positioned herself as a mother figure to her siblings.  At a young age, she was baptized and became a member of the Indian Ridge Baptist Church.  In 1975, “Ree” graduated from Clarke County High School.  Though she was not active in school, she had a rewarding and successful career as a cook, afterwards.  In 1986, she began working at Pruitt’s Restaurant and worked there until 1988.  She then transitioned to the Burger House in town (Grove Hill) in 1988 and worked there for 9 years, leaving in 1997. She had a short three-year tenure at Hamilton Verneer (1997-2000).  Her career concluded at Dunn’s Exxon where she served as a cook from 2000-2009.  Not only did she serve the community and visitors passing through Clarke County while traveling to and from but was also known for cooking Sunday dinner for the family. Her nieces proudly credit her for teaching them how to cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ira “Duke” Wilson and Lucille Horn; one brother, Robert Lee Cook; one devoted cousin who was raised as a brother, Joe Louis Gwin; one sister-in- law, Rosie Lee Horn; one niece, Misty J. Horn; and one great-nephew, Gailon J. Toler.

She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted significant other of 33 years, Frederick Thomas of Coffeville, who cared for her unwaveringly during the time of her illness. She also leaves to cherish her memories two loving and caring children, Kendrick (Kabrechia) Horn and Cassandra Horn-Martin; six siblings, Henry Earl (Brenda) Horn, Vivian Elaine (Ricky Earl) Horne, Kregg A. Horn Sr., John F. Horn, Nettie (Lewis) Hunt, and Annie Snell; four honorary siblings, Terry Andrews, Sidney Andrews, Robert Andrews, and Lisa A. Bowling; six grandchildren, KeAundria “Starr” McGill, Evonte Martin, Reginald Martin Jr., Jadden Martin, Tristian Martin, and Keilani Horn; one great grandchild, Lailani Martin; one aunt, Minnie C. Simpson; four God-children, Kamiyah (Kam-Kam) Horn, Hodrick Dotson, Terrance Savage, and Jordan Brooks; God-granddaughters Kaylani Johnson and TaKyiah Welch; three dedicated caregivers, Ferlisa Ezell (devoted niece), Vivian Jean Thomas (devoted cousin), and Sonya Jackson; two devoted friends, Ruby Singleton and Jody Moore; and host of nieces; nephews; friends, and cousins, one devoted cousin, Woodrow Wilson.
