Albert James Washington Sr., a resident of the Gainestown community, better known as "Preacher," received his wings on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022. Albert was born on July 9, 1954 to Lola Hunt Washington and A.S. Washington. Early in life, Preacher united with the Antioch A.M.E Church until moving away to Bronx, N.Y., where he worked as a bus driver for 28 years before retiring and moving back to Gainestown.
Preacher was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Hunt Sr., Robert Lee Washington and Mack Charles Washington; and his sister, Lisa Washington.
Before his health began to decline, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also loved listening to his music all day and every day.
Preacher leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Deborah Washington; two sons, Albert Washington Jr. and Justin (Amanda) Alston; one adopted son, Siburt Watler; four grandchildren, Ashanti Washington, Justin Jr., Aubrey and Jayce Alston; three brothers, Thomas M. Washington (Christine), Charlie Washington and Cleon Washington; four sisters, Ceola Stallworth, Clara (Bennie) Jemison, Aretha Washington and Coretta (Billy) Leggett; three brothers-in-law, Jerry (Nancy) Alston, Dayton (Angelina) Alston and James Alston Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Linda Holmes and Brenda Alston; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
