Annie Bumpers Obituary

Mrs. Annie Laura Bryant Bumpers, 70, a resident of the Winn community of Jackson, departed this life Nov. 9, 2021 at her home. She was born April 30, 1951 to the parentage of the late Mr. Quincy Bryant Sr. and the late Mrs. Tellie Laura Scott Bryant.

Annie was a member of the Berry’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church of Winn, where she served faithfully in many capacities. She was a 35-year member of the Deaconess Board, also serving as an Alabama-Florida Episcopal District conference worker, and a member of the Otha Thomas Choir. In addition, Annie was class leader, president of YAMS-Missionary Department, Sunday school secretary and a member of the Lay Council. Her beautiful voice was soothing to the spirits and stirring to the souls of many. Sis. Annie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and attending church on Sunday.

In addition to her parents, Annie was preceded in death by four sisters, Aldora Smith, Delcina Jackson, Carrie Ezell and Gracie Mae Leggett; eight brothers, Quincy Bryant Jr., Fred Bryant, King David Bryant, Willie James Bryant, Ira Bryant, Curtis Bryant, Anthony Bryant and John Wiley Bryant; mother-in-law, Mrs. Sweetie Mae Bumpers Lay; father-in-law, Mr. James Bumpers Jr.; and one brother-in-law, Ronald Bumpers.

Many loving memories will be cherished by her husband of 45 years, Mr. Arnold Bumpers of Jackson; three loving and devoted sons, Shedrick (Shari) Bumpers and Otis (Amanda) Bumpers Sr., both of Jackson, and Ryan (Erika) Bumpers of Clarkesville, Tenn.; honorary son, Fred Bryant and loving and devoted sister, Bessie Bryant, both of Walker Springs; brother-in-law, Donald (Annette) Bumpers of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Helen Deloris (Collins) Calhoun of Grove Hill and Velma Bumpers of Leroy; three grandchildren, Tamya Sullivan, Otis Bumpers Jr. and Brendan Robinson; one great-grandchild, Kaleb Crosby; with a host of nieces and nephews.

Public viewing will be Friday, Nov. 19, from 4 until 6 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home, 203 East Ross St., Jackson. The funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 20, 11 a.m., at Berry’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, 2685 Berry’s Chapel Rd., Jackson. The Rev. Isaac T. Acquah is pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
