Barbara Jean Lewis

Mother Barbara Jean Lewis, a native of Thomasville, was born to the late Robert Bettis and Fannie Pearl West on June 1, 1941. Mother Barbara left for her heavenly home Friday, April 30, 2021, while at Mobile Infirmary. 

She accepted Christ at an early age, joining Thomasville COGIC under the leadership of Supt. B. T. Henry, remaining faithful until her earthly demise under the leadership of Supt. Jimmy Ricky Allen. She was a devoted member of the senior choir and mother’s board, as well as serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years. 

She was a graduate of the A.L. Matin High School Class of 1961 and attended Hobson State Technical College.

Mother Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kelvin Lewis; three brothers, Lee and Robert Bettis and Elijah West; four sisters, Dossie Evans, Annie B. Chatman, Ada Stewart and Eloise West.

Left to cherish her memory are her two devoted daughters, Carolyn Lewis of Oxford and Janice (Dexter) Chapman of Coffeeville; devoted son, Kimbrough (Pamela) Struggs of Shreveport, La.; brother, Albert (Laura) Lewis of Grove Hill; five devoted grandchildren, Jarred Lewis of Atlanta, Ga., Travis Struggs of Tuscaloosa, Brianna Calhoun of Huntsville, Dextiny and Alexis Chapman, both of Coffeeville; great-granddaughter, Ariah Lewis of Atlanta, Ga.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, including devoted niece Anetra Lewis, devoted great-nieces, Jasmine West and Cheryl Martin; with devoted friends, Sandra Darrington and Shonda Bass; devoted goddaughters, Teretha Westbrook, Ann Williams, Lora Carson, Lillie and Lisa Arnold; with a host of other relatives and friends.
