Bernice Barnes Obituary

Sister Bernice Reed Barnes, a resident of McIntosh, departed this life to her heavenly home Oct. 13, 2020.

Sister Barnes was born July 9, 1941 to the union of the late Mr. Hiram Reed and Idellar Arch Reed.

Affectionately called “Sister,” “B,” and “Aunt B,” Bernice was well loved by her family and friends. She loved to bake and was well-known for her delicious, mouth-watering pound cakes. She was also a very skilled seamstress. Growing up, she made a lot of her and her siblings’ clothes. She also loved taking pictures of her family and friends. Whenever the family needed pictures of loved ones, they knew exactly where to go.

She was a hard working lady, working and retiring from Scott Paper Company in 1999. She had been an employee for 29 years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Evry Barnes Jr. and two brothers, Burlee Reed and Hiram Reed Jr.

Left to cherish her sweet loving memories are six loving children, Bruce (Brenda) Barnes of St. Cloud, Minn., Alicia (Leo) Major of Mobile, Stanley (Elizabeth) Barnes of Waite Park, Minn., Patrick (Billie Ruth) Barnes and Victor Clay Barnes, both of McIntosh and stepson, Kenny (Sharon) Sims of Mobile; ex-daughter-in-law, Terrell Ware of Mobile; five loving brothers, John Reed and Lovell Reed, both of Mobile, Van (Jackie) Reed and Jimmie (Lillie) Reed, both of McIntosh, and Larry Henderson Sr. of Woodbridge, Va.; two very loving sisters, Daisy Pressley and Dorothy (Warren) Roberts, both of McIntosh; brothers-in-law, Jerome Barnes, Marvin Barnes and Winston (Mary) Barnes, all of McIntosh, Mervin (Delois) Barnes and Elvin Barnes, both of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Mamie Reed and Delvin (Rogest) Carstaphen, both of Mobile, Sarah Barnes of Calvert, Annie (Llewelyn) Adams and Anna (alter) Barnes, both of McIntosh, and Cynthia (Bryan) Holt of Montgomery; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
