Bessie Mitchell Obituary

Bessie Ann Mitchell, a native of the Lilly Valley community of Choctaw Bluff, answered the Master's call on Friday Sept. 24, 2021 while at Mobile Infirmary Hospital. Bessie was born on July 24, 1948 to Annie Boykin and Finley Boykin. 

Bessie was a graduate of Harper High School in the Class of 1967 in Jackson. She was employed as a seamstress at Vanity Fair and also worked for Engineered Textile Product in Mobile. She was a lover of beautiful flowers and watching westerns were her favorite. Before her health began to decline, she also loved going fishing.  

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Daylen McBride; sisters, Minnie Ridgeway, Rosie Bradley and Wilcy Mae Campbell; brothers, Elijah Mitchell, Willie Mitchell, Alfred Mitchell, Eugene Mitchell and James (Johnnie Pearl) Mitchell. 

Bessie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by five children, Rhonda Smith (Kevin), William Smith, Darrel Smith (Gina), David McBride and RaSchael (She-Nickie); grandchildren, Michael Allen, Roderick Williams, David McBride III, Jamal Dukes, Jamarcus Dukes, Jameal Dukes and Jacob McBride; a host great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Emily Mitchell and Audrey Mitchell; one aunt, Wilcy Mae “Aunt Sis” Boykin; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins Mary Washington and Richard Boykin, other relatives and friends.

Pastor Ivory James will be the eulogist.
