Bessie Mae Rivers

Bessie Mae Hunt Rivers, 84 a resident of the Gainestown community was born Jan. 12,1936 to the late Annie Bell and Walter Hunt. She departed this life at Providence Hospital, Mobile on July 16, 2020. Mrs. Rivers was a life long member of Antioch A.M.E. Church of Gainestown.

She loved spending time with family and friends and tending to her grandchildren, fishing, picking and shelling peas (as her grandchildren love telling those pea shelling stories). She loved sitting on the front porch waving as cars passed by. As people passed by and didn’t see her sitting on the porch they would wonder if she was sick. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers; Maple, Juran, Walter. Nathan and Earl Hunt; two sisters, Lola Washington and Earline Stokes; two grandsons, Antoine Nicholson and Jeffery Hunt. 

She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Roenell Nicholson, Annie Frowner and Mattie (Embrel) Vaughn; six sons, Harvie (Patricia) Hunt, Elmore (Vanessa) Kemp, Hoover (Yolanda) Rivers, Otis (Michelle) Rivers, Keith (Amy) Rivers and Ted Rivers; three sisters, Jessie M. Kemp, Berniece Hunt and Eula (Spencer) Rivers; and one brother, Johnnie (Tiawanne) Fletcher; seven sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; 27 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including devoted friend Christine Robinson and adopted daughter, Linda Kennon.
