Charlie “Chief” Kimbrough, Sr. was born on September 10, 1937, to the late Frank Dozier, Sr. and Ura Welch Kimbrough in Chance, Alabama. Charlie and Ms. Ura later relocated to Wagarville, AL, where he resided until Friday, January 24, 2024, when he transitioned to be with the Lord.
Charlie worked a while in the pulp wood industry, REA, Searcy Hospital and eventually retired as a millwright from Brown & Root. Charlie spent a lifetime laughing and making others laugh. He always had a good joke to tell, with the best punch line. He enjoyed family, friends, watching western movies and wrestling. However, his favorite thing to do of all, was listening to country music. It was no secret that Charlie Pride was his favorite artist. Matter of fact, his family took him to see Charlie Pride in 2019, which was one of his favorite moments. He loved showing off his Charlie Pride autographed cap and picture they took.
Charlie met the love of his life, Jacqulyn Norwood, and they were married on September 12, 1959. For the duration of his life, he experienced the quiet, gentle, long-standing and nurturing love of his true soulmate.
He was a member of Lewis Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Ura Welch Kimbrough, Frank Dozier, Sr., and Limmie Kimbrough, Sr.; brothers, Henry Kimbrough, Richard Kimbrough and Ricky Kimbrough; sisters, Hannah Kimbrough and Viola Kimbrough.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Jacqulyn Kimbrough; devoted children, Barbara Rivers, Felicia (Levi) Hunt, Charlie, Jr. (Shelanda) Kimbrough and Tony (Saundra) Kimbrough; brothers, Limmie Jean Kimbrough, Jr., Herman (Yvonne) Kimbrough, James Ray Kimbrough and Ervin Kimbrough; sisters, Emma (Eugene) Reed, Mamie White and Daine (Gene) Lovick; with fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, two special nephews: Melvin Norwood and Tim Lang, a devoted cousin Jamie Lee Welch and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Final life celebration has been entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home.
