Curlee "Big Poppa" Spencer Jr. was born January 19, 1949, to the late Annie Gertrude Spencer and Curlee Spencer Sr. in Coy, AL. He departed this life Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Curlee, affectionately called "Big Poppa" by loved ones, proudly graduated from Rosa A. Lott, Class of 1966. He attended Alcorn State University, where he played baseball. Curlee worked side-by-side with his father at Barry Steam Plant in Bucks, AL. He worked in Boise Cascade sawmill in Jackson, AL, and later retired from Hosea Weaver and Sons in Mobile, AL.
Curlee enjoyed dancing, playing, and coaching baseball and softball, listening to music and spending time with his family and friends. He has a hobby for the love, loud cars, and trucks. He was a fan of Auburn University football team. " War Eagle! "
Preceding him in death were his parents, Curlee Spencer, Sr. and Annie Spencer; grandparents; James Spencer and Clara Spencer and Lillie Blount and Arthur Mitchell; and brother. Henry Spencer Sr.
"Big Poppa" leaves to cherish his legacy and precious memories, his devoted, loving wife and caregiver for 36 years. Christine Spencer; children, Theresa Michelle Merriweather {Keith Miller} of Mobile, AL, Tammy (Jimmy) Martin and Curlee (Tiffany) Spencer III both of Jackson, AL, Cassandra Calhoun of Mobile, AL, Temekia (Mack, Retired Chief of Police) McGill of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren: Lieutenant Melvin (Annette) Alexander Dunn of U.S. Army, Petty Officer 2d Class Joshua Xavier Dunn of U.S. Navy, Benjamin Gregory Foster, Anesha Carstarphen, Devonair Spencer, Kurteris Johnson, Karrah Spencer, Carlie Calhoun, Averie Calhoun, Averie Calhoun, Taylor McGill, Dylan McGill and Jimilya Martin; great-grandchildren; Judah Alexander Dunn, Josiah Amir Dunn and Jael Anorrah Dunn, God- children, Toni Shamaya Rocker and Kaylota Kid, God-grandson, Waylon Portis; siblings. Anita (Stanley) Harvey of Picayune, MS and Horace ( Judy), Cleo Spencer of Slidell, LA; uncles; Earnest Spencer of Mt. Vernon, Cleo Spencer of Pensacola, FLand Jim Spencer of Vredenburg; sister-in-law, Mary Autry and Patricia Caroyln Spencer both of Mobile, AL; brothers-in-law, Richard (Mamie) Edmond and John (Katherine) Edmond II both of Mobile, AL and Mike Hunt of Jackson, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
