Dorothy Gilmore Obituary

Dorothy Lee Gilmore, affectionately known as " Dot" the youngest of three children, was born March 4, 1948 in Clarke County, AL. She peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday , October 7, 2025 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age at Rockbar Baptist Church in West Bend, AL. Her walk with the Lord remained strong throughout her life,  and during her time away from Rockbar, she continued her spiritual journey as a devoted member of Destiny World Church in Austell, Ga. under the leadership of Pastor Wilbur T .Purvis.

She received her early education at Cunningham Elementary School and Clarke County Training School in Coffeeville, AL. Committed to lifelong learning, Dorothy later pursued higher education to further her academic and professional aspirations.

Dorothy dedicated many years of faithful service to the Clarke County Board of Education, working as both a teacher's aide and a school bus driver. Her devotion to education and the well- being of children made a lasting impact on her community.

She was known for her boundless compassion, kindness, and unwavering generosity. Dorothy never denied help to anyone in need. Her door and her heart... were always open. She was a mother and a friend to all who had the blessing of knowing her, offering wisdom, comfort, and love without hesitation.

Dorothy found great joy in simple pleasures: fishing, attending school sporting events and church functions, and uplifting the name of the Lord. She was a faithful steward of her time, talents, and resources, always placing her faith and her family at the center of her life.

Dorothy deeply cherished her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. Her legacy love, service, and selflessness will continue to live on through all those she touched.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Wylie Dewberry and Harriet Sellers Dewberry; maternal grandparents, George and Connie Thomas; parents, George and Wille Mae Dewberry; son, Michael Gilmore; granddaughter, Chrishundra Monique Gilmore.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her legacy and precious memories forever, her loving sons: James Tyron Gilmore of Detroit, MI  and Ryland ( Elena) Gilmore of Atlanta, GA; two siblings: Eugene Dewberry of Conyers, GA and Brady Earl Kiel of Coffeeville, AL; six grandchildren: Cherelle, Moesha, Jada, Jasmine, Ryleigh, and Raela; two great- grandchildren: Derrus Jr. and Emani; four nieces and nephews: Pam, Eric, Roderick ( Kerry) , and Lakia ( Willie); great- nephew, Crane Arthur; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
