Dorthy Brown Howze, affectionately known as “Dot,” was born Dec. 9, 1946, to the late Sadie Oliver and
Roosevelt Brown. Dorothy passed to be with her Lord and Savior July 19, 2024 at Mobile Infirmary.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church of Jackson. Dorothy was a dedicated
member of the Pastor’s Support Committee, the Greeter’s Committee and the Missionary Society.
Following graduation from Harper High School, Dot worked at Vanity Fair Mills in Jackson. She later moved to
New Jersey, then New York, and was employed by Detecto Scales. While in New York she maintained her church
attendance and was a member of the Eastern Star. After 20 years she decided to return home where her work history
included the Clarke County Board of Education as a teacher’s aide at Gillmore Elementary School and she served as
a dedicated Girl Scout Troop leader. She also worked at the Jackson Health Care Facility, Alabama Electric
Corporation and later retired from Jackson’s Walmart Super center.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Willie Frank Howze; son, Omar Howze; and two brothers, Charles
Oliver Sr. and Thomas Brown Sr.
Left to cherish her memories is one son, Thomas Kwamena Amoo Jr.; one loving and devoted sister, Marion
Campbell; three amazing grandchildren, Justin Darrell Thornton, Keyanna Tashelle Amoo and Dakota Amoo; and
one great-grandchild, Ava Jade Thornton. Dorothy also had a special bond with her bonus daughter, Melissa
Rancher; a “sister-cousin,” Annie Starks; a loving cousin, Marilyn Bernard; trusted driver, Faye Worthy Martin; and
great-niece Kensley Hosea. She also leaves cherished memories with the Harper High School Class of 1964, the
