Eddie Allen Purifoy, a native of Prestwick and a resident of Jackson, better known to family and friends as “Mr. Big Heart," made his earthly transition on Nov. 18, 2021 while at Jackson Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 20, 1948 to Charles Purifoy Sr. and Gertrude Howell. He was a member of St. Union Baptist Church in Leroy.
Mr. Big Heart was a very quiet and compassionate man who you would see daily in town picking up cans and having his breakfast at Pic n Save.
Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings, Mildred Inez McNeal, Carrie McNeal, Charles Purifoy Jr., Allen Lee Purifoy and Vernon Purifoy.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Margaret Nettles Purifoy of Jackson; his stepchildren, Nettie Johnson, Mattie Webb, Solomn Webb and Deborah Johnson; siblings, Jessie Ruth Salvage, Christine Marie Purifoy, Ruth Lavon Purifoy, Williams Earl (Billie) Webb, Dennis Ray Purifoy, Willie Purifoy, Thomas Purifoy, Mary Purifoy, Ruthie Mae Purifoy, Clara Purifoy, Marvin Purifoy, Melvin Purifoy, Barbara Ann Purifoy, Willie Mae Purifoy, Tracy (Kezzy) Purifoy and Bridget Purifoy; brothers-in-law, Charles (Lillian) Nettles and Elbert (Linda) Nettles, both of Grove Hill, Fredrick (Pam) Nettles of Prince George, Va., Jerry (Debra) Nettles Carlton and James (Brenda) Nettles, both of Calvert; sisters-in-law, Deloris Richardson of Mableton, Ga., Thelma Carey of Jackson and Marie Gray of Los Angeles, Calif.; best friend, Bob Foreman; with a host of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 27, 11 a.m., at St. Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Leroy. The Rev. Richmond Chaney, pastor, will be the officiating minister.
