Edward Lee Nix, affectionally known as "Man Nix" was born December 25, 1944, in the Vernal community of Leakesville, MS to the late Elder Rubin Nix and Mary Louise Savage Nix. Edward departed this life on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Jackson Health Care of Jackson, AL.
At an early age, Edward united with Wesly Chapel United Methodist Church in Vernal, MS. He relocated to Jackson, AL and united with the AOH Church of God under leadership of Bishop M.L. Tilly. Later in life he then united with First Baptist Church of Jackson, AL, under the leadership of Pastor Philip McDuffie where he was a member of the choir and remained until his health failed. Edward started his education at Leakesville, MS, prior to moving to Jackson, AL where he then continued his education at Harper High School. His employment history started as a longshoreman working on a dragging boat on the Mississippi River and in the Gulf of Mexico for twelve years, then at Allied for ten years and later at Hamilton Sawmill until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, walking, going to church and watching his favorite football team which was the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed singing with the Jackson Male Chorus.
Preceding him in death were his parents: sisters: Ruby Nix, St. George, Lillie N. Smith, and Ardelll N. Poellmitz, and brother: Carl Nix; grandparents: James and Hannah Nix, and Charles and Sallie Savage.
Edward leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted daughter: Debra (Jerome) Bettis of Jackson, AL four grandchildren, one adopted grandson, four great grand, two brothers: Billy Nix of Detroit, MI and Aaron (Cassandra) Nix of Decatur, GA and a host of nieces two devoted; Darlene Davis and Priscilla Frowner and nephews; and one devoted friend, James Carstarphen.
