Elder William Lesueur Obituary

Elder William Trip Lesueur , respectfully known as W.T. Lesueur, a resident of Grove Hill, peacefully passed away with his wife and daughter by his bedside on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022. On Oct. 26, 1935 he was born to parents, Ellis Trip Lesueur and Mamie Lesueur. He was 86 years of age.

A native of the Consul community in Marengo County, he attended high school in Thomaston. Later, he served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. Elder Lesueur began his pastoral career in 1963 with his first church in Daphne. He made Grove Hill his home in 1987.

As a servant of God, Elder Lesueur served diligently in active ministry for more than 58 years as a pastor and presiding elder in the 9th District African Methodist Episcopal Church. After retiring as presiding elder, he served as assistant pastor of St. Thomas A.M.E. Church in Lower Peach Tree until his death.

In addition to his pastoral leadership in the A.M.E. Church, Elder Lesueur worked actively as a servant leader, mentored many in the community, and owned a local business. His organizational involvement includes: being a member of the Clarke County Park and Recreation Board, past president of the NAACP Clarke County Unit No. 5033, a lifetime member of the NAACP, past member of the American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” campaign and Grove Hill Relay Executive Committee member, and past president of the Clarke County High School Basketball Sixth Man Booster Club. Through the years, he has received various honors and recognitions, including the 2021 NAACP Clarke County Unit No. 5033 Award, the 2013 Grove Hill Citizen of the Year, and Clergyman of the Year. In 2010, he opened the Lesueur Christian Youth Center in Grove Hill.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Ross Lesueur; three daughters, Sylvia, Cynthia and Vanessa Lesueur; sisters and brothers.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving and devoted wife, Marion Lesueur; a caring and devoted daughter, Sharon Carlton; two sons, William (Shelia) Lesueur Jr. and Clifford (Yolanda) Lesueur; devoted sister, Fannie Harrod of Philadelphia, Pa.; 13 grandchildren, two devoted grandchildren, Jarvis Lesueur and Breshawn Lesueur; a host of great-grandchildren; caring nieces and nephews; a caring cousin, the Rev. James Harris; caring sister-in-law, Jonnie Mae Flowers; caring neighbor, families, and friends, Margaret Kelly, Cheryl Horton, the Wynter, Jones, Dial and Robinson families, devoted god-children, the Davis family, Calhoun family, and many more who know him as “Grandaddy” and “Papa;” his loving and caring church family; and last but not least, his pet, Princess, who misses him very much already.
