Eliga Johnson Thomas Sr.

Eliga Johnson Thomas Sr., a native of McIntosh and a resident of Jackson, was born on March 14, 1945, to Leola
Thomas and Robert Johnson Sr. Eliga attended school in McIntosh. As a young man, he visited Jackson and
developed a love for the small city.
After high school, Eliga went to work at Olin Chemical Plant as a chemical operator until he retired. He met and
married Gracie Mae Thomas. Through this union, they were blessed with six children.
Eliga was a faithful servant to the Lord. He was a member of the Jackson AOH Church of God for many years,
where he played the guitar. His greatest joys were playing the guitar, planting his garden, raising his many animals,
and spending time with his family.
Eliga passed away peacefully on Dec. 13, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Gracie Mae Thomas of Jackson;
children, Erica Michelle (Anthony) Surles, Eliga Johnson (Jennifer) Thomas Jr., Emmanuel Lamont Thomas and
Edmond Corderal Thomas; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one great-great-grandchild on the way;
siblings, Dolly (Earl) McDonald, Barbara J. McDonald, Deloris (Joseph, Sr.) Dennis, Robert (Evelyn) Johnson,
Terry (Florence) Johnson, and the Rev. Walter Brace (Jackie) Johnson; with a host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
