Essie Mae Johnson April 6, 1958 – July 30, 2025
Ms. Essie Mae Johnson was a native of Red Creek and a longtime resident of Huntsville. She transitioned from this life on July 30th, 2025, surrounded by family at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville.
Ms. Johnson was born April 6th, 1958, to the late Mid Johnson Sr. and Mrs. Francis Turner Johnson. She was a former member of Zion Chapel AME Church. She joined Whole Truth Church of God in Christ (COGIC) under Superintendent Solomon Smith in 1982 where she served faithfully as the pastor’s aide president. She later moved to Huntsville and joined True Light COGIC under the guidance of Superintendent Terrell Harris. She served as a Sunday School teacher and president of the Singles Ministry until her health started to decline. Ms. Johnson was also the spearhead for Monday Night Johnson Family Prayer.
Essie Mae was a 1977 graduate of Southern Choctaw High School. After graduating, she worked for manufacturing companies in Millry and Silas. She continued her education at Alabama Southern Community College with a cosmetology certification and was board certified by the State of Alabama.
Ms. Essie Mae Johnson is preceded in death by her loving parents, Mid Sr. and Francis Turner Johnson, and her brother Mr. Clifford Johnson.
She leaves her brothers and sisters to cherish her memories, Hazel McKeller, Mid Johnson Jr. and Penelope Craft, all of Millry, Annie Boman of Franksville, Jefferson Johnson of Paulina, La., Lillie Johnson of Silas, Rosie Sellers of Huntsville and John Johnson of Leaksville, Miss.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, church family, relatives and friends.
