Eteria Peoples Obituary

"Eteria "Madeal," "Nig" and "Black Annie" Ely-Peoples was a native of Whatley and a residence of Barlow Bend. She was born on May 3, 1937 and transitioned to her eternal home on August 29, 2019.

Minister Eteria accepted Christ at an early age. She was  a faithful member of the James Chapel Baptist Church where she served as an associate minister, on the Mother's Board, as a choir member, in the Missionary Ministry and Team Lead intercessory Prayer. She sang in numerous quartets and helped in many other roles within the church and community. Her life exuded love to all who know her. Her hobbies were singing and fishing.

Preceding her in death were her loving husband, Deacon Columbus Peoples Sr.,; daughter, Stella Jean Peoples; parents, Pearlie and Joe Ely; and six sibling ; Claretta Ely-Murphy, Amy Ely-Thompson, Hilton Ely, Maxie Ely, Charles M. Ely "Puddin" and Isaac "Buddy" Ely.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Columbus Peoples Jr., of Jackson and Michael Peoples of Barlow Bend; six daughters, Jo Ann Pickens and Irene Chapman, both of Barlow Bend, Angela L. (Derrick) Boykin of Eight Mile, Bettye L. Peoples and Catherine Mass, both of Jackson and Jacquelyn (Norris) Johnson of Huntsville; four sisters, Josephine Ely-Waterford of Joplin, MO., Veria M. Ely (Johnny) of Chicago, Ill., Mattie L. Ely-Robinson and Essie B. Ely-Goodwin both of Barlow Bend, four brothers; Ira Ely, Louis V. (Jean) Ely and Willie L. Ely of Mobile, and Joe L. (Lynn) Ely of Detroit, Mich., devoted brother, E. Sopson (Pauline), 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with a host of other relatives and friends.
