Felton Harris Obituary

Felton Harris (affectionately known as "Leak") born March 2, 1936 to the Morning Star Community, was the first child of the late Arthur Harris (September 10, 1959) and Roseanna Wilson Harris (December 25, 2014).

At a young age, Felton accepted Christ and united with the Morning Star Baptist Church of Whatley, where he served faithfully as a youth and later as a member both the Usher Board and Trustee Board. in time, he also became a member of Pine Chapel No. 1 Baptist Church and often worshiped with the Indian Ridge Baptist Church. His faith along with his parents' guidance were a steady guide throughout his life.

Felton graduated from Wilson Hall High School and went straight into the workforce. He always worked to provide for his family, spending some time working in Detroit and San Franciso. But since he loved the outdoors, he returned to Alabama and retired in February 1998 from the CIBA-Geigy Company in McIntosh, AL.

Felton was known for his giving spirit and kind disposition. He was always ready to help others-whether offering rides to those without transportation, tending to the family cemetery (despite his fear of snakes and the deceased), or assisting neighbors in need. His kindness and generosity earned him love and respect throughout his community.

Felton had a deep love for football, basketball, and his cherished Gunsmoke reruns. He found joy in sharing stories from his life, often leaving others smiling and laughing- sometimes without even realizing just how funny he truly was.

After retiring, Felton devoted more time to family and friends. He lovingly cared for his mother during her later years, remaining by her side until her passing in December 2014 at the age 101, a very traumatic event in his life. After her death, he along with his sisters established a scholarship fund to her memory. He served on the scholarship board until his death.

His love for his family was a driving force in his life. He strived to be a strong presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren in all they did, from his sons'  trucking companies to attending every ball game, kite flying, and graduation. In 2017, he even overcame his fear of flying to take his very first plane ride to South California to see his grandson graduate from high school. He also went to Atlanta in May of this year to witness his great-nephew graduate from high school, his last trip.

In December 2024, he moved in with his oldest son Arthur, daughter-in-law Alice, and their children. Surrounded by family, close relatives, and friends, Felton was embraced with warmth, love, and care. When his needs grew, he transitioned to Englewood Healthcare Center, where he was supported with compassion until God called him home on August 18, 2025.

Felton was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Roseanna; his infant daughter Sharon (1962); three beloved wives-Francis, Mattie Pearl, and Doris; his cherished aunts Gertrude Robinson, Cora Lynum, and Bernice Harris; and many other dear family members and friends.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and faith cherished by his children: Arthur Harris (Alice), Alphonza Harris (Cynthia), Felton Harris, Jr. (Tamecha), Velda Robinson (Cecil) and Lt. Feltonia James, ret. (Frank); his honorary daughters, Sherrie Hicks and Cheryl Burroughs; his sisters Dr. Mary Harris Evans and Lela Harris; Esq.; his niece Roslyn Benjamin: honorary sister/  cousins Unistine Harris; two children: Tavias James (grandchild) and Tyrese Harris (great-grandchild) both of whom he helped to raise; his childhood playmate and cousin, Mary Foreman; host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends who will continue to celebrate his life and honor his memory.
