Gertude Dorsett, a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Jackson , made her earthly transition on Sunday, Oct 1, 2023, while at Jackson Medical Center in Jackson . She was born Nov 15, 1940 to the parentage Rosetta Houston Hamilton and Nathan Hamilton Sr. Getrude was baptized at St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Joseph E. Washington. She was a graduate of Alfred C. Priestly High in New Orleans. While in New Orleans she was a devoted member of OES Cyrus Chapter # 4 and a member of Martha Grand Chapter under the Jurisdiction of The Supreme Council of Louisiana- A.A.S.R.F.M.
Ms. Gertrude was affectionately known to all as "Granny . " Working many years as a head chef at a restaurant in New Orleans, it led her to a love for cooking her New Orleans cuisine. She also loved working on puzzle books and working with her beautiful flowers. After relocating to Jackson, she became a member of the Pine Chapel No. 2 Baptist Church in Toddtown, where she remained a member until her passing.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband, Vernell Dorsett Sr.; siblings, R.C. Hamilton, Annie Pearl Lewis, Major Hamilton, Dorothy Joseph, Alice Hamilton, Diane Hamilton, David Hamilton, and Nathan Hamilton Jr.
Left to cherish her memories are her six children, Clarence ( Novelle) Hamilton, Charles Dewitt and Matthew Dorsett, all of New Orleans, LA, Thomas Dewitt Jr. of Richmond, CA, Vernell ( Rosa) Dorsett Jr. and Alice Daffin both of Jackson; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Paulette Hamilton of New Orleans, LA, and Vela Armstrong of Houston, TX; and four god children , with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
