James (Joe) Authur Holcombe departed this earthly life May 30, 2020 at Choctaw Health & Rehab in Butler, Alabama. He was the eight child born to Robert and Eva (Cunningham) Holcombe on November 23, 1933. Having lived in several places: Cullomburg, Alabama, Chicago, Illinois, Flatwood, and Butler Alabama, he was kind and well received in each. Although Joe never married or fathered children, he was a devoted son, loving brother and uncle, caring neighbor, and friend to many.
Joe knew the importance of worshipping the Lord. He joined White Chapel Baptist Church in Cullomburg, Alabama during the early years of his life. Later, while residing in Flatwood, Alabama, he moved his membership to Pleasant Chapel Baptist Church. As a resident of the local nursing home, Joe regularly attended worship service at the center.
Joe was preceded in death by the following members of his family: parents Robert and Eva Holcombe, brothers; Robert “Bud” Holcombe, and Johnnie Holcombe, sisters; Flora (George) Mitchell, Claretha (Preston) Holcombe, Carrie (Johnnie) Powe, Paralee (Robert (JT)) Clayton, and Wardella (Charles) Winchester, one nephew who was raised as a brother, Larry Holcombe, and two additional brother-in laws; Robert Curry and Norman Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters: Louise Johnson (Stone Mountain, Georgia) and Juanita Curry (Chicago, Illinois), and one niece who was raised like as a sister, Barbara (Walter) Freeman (Newport News, Virginia), two devoted nieces Mary Hill and Angela Phillips, one devoted nephew, Reginald Phillips, Sr., one devoted great nephew, Reginald Phillips, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
