James Lawrence was affectionately known as "Lawrence" was born to the late Theodore Law and Willie Rocker in Jackson, AL.
A graduate of Harper High School in the Class of 1962, Lawrence continued his education at ASU. He served 16 years in the US Army, which included two tours in Vietnam and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star Medal. After a medical discharge from the Army, Lawrence attended and graduated from Regis University of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Lawrence resided in Colorado Springs, where he retired from the United States Postal Service. He returned home to Jackson to provide care-giving assistance for his brother. While in Jackson, Lawrence's health began to fail. He transitioned at USA Trauma Center in Mobile on December 7, 2024.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Q. V. Chapman, Jr.; and grandmothers, Mary Watts and Agnes Payne.
Left to cherish his memories are his devoted family including his sister, Rosie (Eugene) Hayes; brothers, Ray (Cleo) Warren and Timothy (Lonette) Chapman; godchildren, Gaynor Lew and Lorance Hayes; devoted friends, Father Henry Doyle and Richard Boykin; with a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
