Jimmy Lewis “Hardcrop” Slater, Sr. was born October 24,1938 to the late Mr. & Mrs.
Theodore Slater, Sr. of Bladon Spring, AL. He departed this life on Thursday, June 12,
2025 while at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.
Jimmy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of Antioch Missionary
Baptist Church. He proudly served on the Usher Board.
Jimmy was a graduate of Shady Grove High School. He was employed with Boise
Paper Mill for over twenty years of dedicated service.
Jimmy loved the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed driving, playing dominoes, being with
family and talking with people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Theodore Slater, Sr.; sister, Della
Slater; brother, Theodore Slater, Jr.; grandchild, Cedric Campbell; sisters-in law:
Charlene Williams, Nola Ree Williams, Mary Louise Rogers, Lula Mae Johnson, Ollie
Rose Johnson, Beatrice Rogers Johnson and Annie Jones Johnson; and brothers-in-law:
Earnest Lee Johnson, Robert Johnson and Joseph Johnson.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his loving memories, his devoted wife for over sixty years,
Rosetta Johnson Slater of Bladon Springs, AL; daughter, Sondra Young of Jackson, AL;
five sons: Jimmy (Irene) Slater, Jr. of Fulton, AL, Darin (George Ann) of Gautier, MS,
Roger Johnson of Bulter, AL, Dennis Slater and Earnest Slater both of Bladon Spring,
AL; one sister, Elzora Kirksey and one brother, Frank (Annie) Slater, Sr. both of Bladon,
AL; sisters-in-law: Milleray (Clyde) Hill of Cullomburg, AL and Bettie Slater of
Bladon Springs, AL; brothers-in-law: Bob Rogers of Bladon Springs, AL and Marvin
Williams of Coffeeville, AL; seven grandchildren: Brittany Slater, Jermaine Slater,
April Slater, Kadedrick Young, Bryton Young, Precious Boman and Samuel Boman;
five great-grandchildren: Chance Bennett, Chase Bennett, Jr., Chazlyn Bennett, Paisley
Abston and Jordan Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
friends; devoted friends: Robert Tartt, Bob Rogers, Antonio Datcher and Jamie
Robinson.
