Sgt. Johnnie L. Robinson (affectionately known as John L, Woody, or Jelly) was born Dec. 30, 1946 to the late William Gibbs and Adeline Robinson. He transitioned from this life on Dec. 25, 2024, at Jackson Healthcare Facility in Jackson, AL.
After graduating from Prestwick High School in Prestwick, Al., John L. enlisted and served a total of ten years in the United States Air Force. While in service, he served the United States Air Force in and outside of the United States; however, at the end of his military career, he received an honorable discharge, and moved back home to reside in Leroy, Al. Throughout the years, he became a member of St. Union Baptist Church, supported Leroy High School under the Friday Night Lights, and faithfully worked at Richardson Farm until his health failed. Due to his humbleness and dedication to working with the Richardson family, he became an honorary family member.
He was preceded in death by both parents, as well an nine siblings: five sisters: Daisy James, Johnny Mae Martin, Lillie Bell Taylor, Jane Robinson, and Juanita Allen; and four brothers; Jessie James, Wilmer Mcbride, Sr., Henry Allen Robinson, and Charles Robinson.
Sgt. Robinson had no biological children; however, he was like a father to us all. He leaves to cherish his memories: one sister, Jane Davis of Mobile, Al, A host of nieces, one devoted: Patricia Hill of Leroy, Al, nephews, other relatives, and friends: one long-term, childhood friend, Herbert Moore, Jr.
