Leo Cox Obituary

Leo  " Chin " Cox was born in the Todd Town community of Grove Hill, Alabama on October 26, 1937 to the late Charlie James Cox, Sr., and Alma Lee Todd Cox. He was the 2nd child of 11 children. Leo accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pine Chapel Baptist Church #2.

Leo attended Wilson Hall High School, where he was a passionate football player.  Although he loved learning, Leo had to devote his attention elsewhere when he quit school to help his parents care for his younger siblings, tend the crops and other family chores.  Around the age of 16, Leo started working in Foley, Alabama harvesting fruits and vegetables during harvesting season and in the restaurant industry when the season was over.  Later, he worked alongside his father for Bonny Wilson Timber Company, Chastain Timber Company and Beeches and Sons.  He continued his working career at Brown and Root and Norfolk Southern Railways until his retirement in 2000.  Leo was a hardworking and dedicated employee.

In the early 1960’s, Leo met and married Johnita Martin. To this union one son, Patrick, was born. Leo dedicated his life to his family and the Todd Town Community.  He was a humble, kindhearted person known for helping anyone in need.

Leo was a good neighbor, loyal friend, and faithful church member. He loved traveling to visit his son in Birmingham, AL, Washington, DC and New Orleans, LA. He also enjoyed flying to Los Angeles to visit his mother after she moved to California to live with her daughter.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Alma; son, Carl; sisters, Mary, Josephine, Bernice and Ann; half-sister, Beatrice; brothers Henly, Johnny, Elroy and Carlos; half-brother, Walter; adopted brother, Samuel.
