Acknowledging the humble and soft-spoken spirit of Lillian Chapman, a native of the Winn community and resident of Grove Hill, Alabama.
Lillian Chapman was born December 8, 1938 to the late Pearlie and Ollie Mae Martin Chapman. She departed from her earthly life to eternal life on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Jackson Medical Center.
At an early age Lillian joined Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church and became a proud member of the Mother’s Board.
Lillian was a graduate of the Clarke County Training School, Coffeeville, Alabama.
Lillian, known as “Mur” by many whom she loved, enjoyed listening to Sunday spiritual programs, cooking large dinners for her family and anyone who may come by. She had a kind heart and compassionate spirit for taking care of any and everyone that she could help.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Chapman Jr.; daughter, Theresa Dianne Chapman; siblings: Carrie Pearl Pugh, Lawrence Chapman, Blondia Mae Chapman and Pastor Vayton Chapman; brother-in-law, Jeremiah Pugh, Sr.; niece, Annette Nettles; nephews: Lawrence Chapman, Jr. and Jeremiah Pugh, Jr.; with a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends whom she cherished dearly.
Lillian will live forever in the loving memories of her devoted daughter, Sandra Chapman Pugh; stepdaughter, Janice Pugh Franklin; step-grandchildren: Michael (Tasha) Pugh and Brandon Pugh; raised as a brother, Roosevelt Martin; sister-in-law, Shirley Chapman; aunt, Irma Martin; devoted nieces and nephews: Rose (Danny) Lanier, Blondia Granger, JoAnn (John) Adams, Shirley (George) Joseph, Gerri (Bobby) Howze, Steve Pugh, Eddie (Minnie) Adams, Denisal (Will) McCalphine, Ralph (Carstina) Chapman, Purvis Chapman, Belinda Cowan and Terrance (Dextin) Cobbs; as a grandson, Allan Caiden Nettles, who called her “Mug”; with a host of devoted great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Her phone friends whom she enjoyed conversing with: Mary Jones, Helen Lois Calhoun, Mildred Chapman, Lillian Smith Dodda and Hazel Butler.
