Lillie Mae Nix Smith was born on Aug. 2, 1946 in Vernal community of Leaksville, Miss., to the late Elder Rubin Nix and Mary Savage Nix. Lillie made her earthly transition on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023.
At an early age she united with Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Vernal, Miss. After relocating to Jackson, Lillie continued her education at Harper High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. Later in life her employment began with Vanity Fair where she worked for 45 years before retiring as a supervisor.
In 1964 she moved to the Toddtown community, there she united with Pine Chapel No. 2 Baptist Church where she was a faithful and dedicated member, serving as a Sunday school teacher, member of the missionary society, and on the board of trustees. Lillie was a member of the Clarke County Chapter ADC where she served as treasurer, the Clarke County Democratic Executive Committee, as a poll worker, she was a former member of the Elks Social And Saving Club and Blue Light Saving Club.
Lillie would attend the gym on a daily basis where she enjoyed meeting with friends and exercising together, following which they went to the Jackson Nutrition Center where they loved the great fellowship, playing games and more.
Lillie never met a stranger. She loved people and enjoyed talking to them about her children and granddaughters. She also enjoyed shopping, traveling and spending time with children and supporting her granddaughters. Lillie was also an avid Alabama fan.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Ruby Nix St. George and Ardell Nix Poellnitz; brother, Carl Nix; a nephew whom she loved dearly, Micheal Poellnitz; and her grandparents, James Nix and Hannah Nix, and Charles Savage and Sallie Savage.
Many wonderful memories will be cherished by her sons, John Smith of Suffofrd,Va. and Robert Earl Smith of Montgomery; granddaughters, Lauren Ashley Smith of Sufford, Va. and La'Tara Denise Murray of Montgomery.; three brothers, Edward Nix of Jackson, Billy Nix of Detroit, Mich. and Aaron (Cassandra) Nix of Decatur, Ga.; one aunt, Albert Nix of Moss Piont, Miss.; with a host of nieces, one devoted as a sister, Darlene Davis; nephews, other cousins and friends too numerous to name.
