Linda Williams Powell
Linda Edith Williams Powell, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. and resident of Suggsville, early Thursday morning April 29, 2021, traded time for eternity while at the Regional Medical Hospital in Greenville. She was born Feb. 15, 1948 to Edith Williams and Melvin Williams Sr. Later in life, Linda relocated back Alabama with her husband James L. Powell Sr. A great seamstress, she also loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church in Whatley.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, James L. Powell Sr.; brothers, Danny, Melvin Jr. and Kenneth Williams.
Left to cherish her memories are one daughter, Tanya (Lukieth) Likely of Georgiana; five sons, Tommy (Vanessa) Berry of Amityville, N.Y., Patrick Williams of Raleigh, N.C., James (Yolanda) Powell Jr. of Suggsville, Mario (La'Cheryl) Powell of Jackson, Miss., and Ivan (Nanetta) Powell of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; one stepson, James McGowan of Flint, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Cohen of Pensacola, Fla., and Sylvia Williams of Pennsylvania; five brothers, O'Shea Williams of California, Michael, Calvin, Percell and Ricardo Williams, all of New York, N.Y.; one brother-in-law, Ben Powell of Wagarville; 10 sisters-in-law, Barbara (Sam) King and Ruby Thomas, both of Amityville, N.Y., Dora Jackson of Barlow Bend, Sonya Powell of Citronelle, Rose (Charles) Reed, Barbara (Albert) Braggs, Cheryl Powell, Kimberly Jackson and Marsha and Nellie Powell, all of Wagarville; six aunts, two devoted, Lucille Wright of Jackson and Gwen Powell of Wagarville, Effie (Willie) Roberts of Wagarville, Irene, Vivian and Mildred McGill, all of New York; one uncle, Albert McGill of New York; one goddaughter, Celeste Snell of Montgomery; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
