Marie Pugh Obituary

Marie Chapman Pugh, a native of Grove Hill and resident of Satsuma, was welcomed into the gates of heaven on Saturday, July 17, 2021, from her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 7, 1936 to the late Maynard Chapman and Beatrice Chapman. Early in life she joined the Mt. Zion No. 2 Baptist Church in Grove Hill, where she was a member of the choir and served in many other capacities. Later in life, she united with Newness of Life Worship Center under the leadership of her son, Pastor Eddie Roy Pugh Jr. Retiring from Clarke County Board of Education as a cafeteria worker at Grove Hill Elementary School, Marie was also a former member of Bertha Mae Chapter No. 314 OES. Before her health began declining, she enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family, reading, writing and playing the piano, and especially spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Eddie Roy Pugh Sr.; sister, Bertha Chapman; and brothers, Grady Chapman and Robert Chapman.

Left to forever cherish her memories are her two daughters, Gladys Marie Pugh Perry of Prattville and Tretta Lynnya (Malcolm) Huff of Mobile; three sons, Eddie Roy (Cynthia) Pugh of Grove Hill, Terry (Tynesha) Pugh of Satsuma and Ricky (LaTonya) Pugh of Dempolis; five sisters; Mattie (Abraham) Chapman of Grove Hill, Betty Johnson of Montgomery, Mary Francis Love  of Atlanta, GA., Octavia Sigler of Detroit, MI., and Marcella Ann (James) Wright of Waterloo, IA.; 25 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
