Mrs. Martha Ella Rodgers Parker was born Oct. 7, 1938 to the parentage of the late Ed Rodgers and Leola People Rodgers in Mobile. At an early age, she united with Mt. Olive No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and Pastor's Aide Committee. Martha loved going to church and serving the Lord. Even when she was not feeling her best, she would still make her way to church.
On Jan. 7, 1955, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of life, Mr. Walter George Parker (better known as "WG" or "Toot"). To this union, they were blessed with five children.
Her best friend and husband WG peacefully transitioned from this life, March 18, 2009. Veronica Jill Parker Jones, her daughter, and one devoted son who preceded her in death.
Left to cherish her memories are three devoted daughters, Lenora Jackson, Rose Mary Parker and Benita Faye Parker Emory; 16 grandchildren, Patrick, Sherwin, Andra, Jessica, Shenay, Melaine, La Darrell, Britney, April, Steve, Gregory Jr., Romeiko, Sanferna, Tammy, Anthony and Patricia; 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two devoted nieces, Charlene Jones and Marion Evans , and devoted cousin Marion Calhoun; one dear and devoted friend, Mrs. Edna Whittle and the Golden Girls, Mrs. Hattie Sampson, Carolyn Dean Jettie Johnson, and Retha Bettis , devoted friend, Henrietta Goodwin, and devoted helper, Roosevelt Johnson; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
