Mary Elizabeth Williams Gaston, also known as "Muh," Scoot, Nanny and Nan, was the first child born to Lawrence and Alice Williams on January 6, 1931. She departed her life on January 20, 2024. Early in life she confessed Christ and was a member of Good Hope Presbyterian Church in Arlington, where she worked in a number of capacities under the leadership of the Rev. James A. Fisher. Later, after relocating, she united with the Mt. Olive Number 2 Baptist Church in Jackson, under the leadership of the Rev. Stevenson E. Tullis, where she was a faithful and dedicated member. She served for many years in the choir before declining health.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Mageline, James, Roosevelt and Lawrence.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories eight children, Edna Williams, Janice Parker, Diane Gaston, Arthur (Linda) Williams, Larry (Cassie) Williams, Henry Gaston, Recco Gaston and Gregory(Martha) Gaston; three sisters-in-law, Russia Lee Gaston, Ethel Pearl Williams and Alice Williams; five honorary sons, Kim Richardson, Greg, Mark, Rodney and Chris Jackson; 21 grandchildren; with a host of great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, January 26, from 4 until 6 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 27, at 11 a.m., at Mt. Olive Number 2 Baptist Church, 105 Griffin St., Jackson, AL. Interment will follow in the Good Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Arlington.
Final life celebration has been entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home, 203 East Ross St., Jackson, AL.
