Mary Frances Jackson Sims, better known to family and friends as “Mae Frances,” was a resident of the Sunflower Community, was born September 20, 1936 to the late Travis and Frances Jackson in Rockville, AL. She exchanged her life for eternal joy on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 while at University of South Alabama Medical Center.
Mary joined Little Sunflower Baptist Church #3 at an early age, where she served faithfully and held the office of Church Secretary for many years.
Mary was employed with Vanity Fair. After serving over forty years of dedicated service she retired.
Mary was a very outspoken person who loved her children and family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Her most loved sport was fishing and baseball, which she loved to do. Her favorite Major League Baseball team was the “Atlanta Braves”. She loved them all dearly, but could watch the Braves daily and fish daily.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Ben Sims; her parents, Travis and Frances Jackson; daughter, Mary J. Kelly; granddaughter, Tamisha Johnson; brother, Roosevelt Jackson; and sister, Willie Mae Jackson.Remaining to cherish her fond memories are her children: Betty Sims, Sharon (Cliff) Brown, Regina (Al) Portis and Angela Sims all of Sunflower, AL, Ben (Angela) Sims Jr. of Montgomery, AL, David (Sheena) Sims of Thomasville, AL and Dexter Sims of Sunflower, AL; brother, Ossie Jackson of Washington, DC; sister-in-law, Ella Mae Sims; 28 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 43 great-great-grandchildren; godson, Brayden Brown; bonus daughter, Tee Harris; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; including special friends: Vera Chapman, Roxey James, Carolyn Scott, Mary Jo Starling, and Liz Burrell; special cousin, Annie Pearl Brown; and bonus sons: David Turner, Andy Parnell and Bruce Parnell; and two neighborhood sons: Marvin Lewis Davidson, Sr. and Frank Webb, Jr.
