Meta Yelder Obituary

Meta Alean Brown Fields Yelder, a lifelong resident of Sunflower, was born in Mobile Jan. 9, 1943 to Isaac “Ike” Brown and Peggy Brown. She attended Sunflower School and graduated from Prestwick High School in 1961. She was a substitute teacher and dedicated homemaker to her husband, children and other family members. She confessed Christ early in life and again in adulthood. Meta was a member of Mt. Shady A.M.E. Zion Church in Sunflower.

On the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, with family and friends at her bedside, Meta traded life for eternity. 

Meta leaves to cherish and carry on her legacy a loving husband, Jack M. Yelder Jr. of Sunflower; and six children, Roderick S. (Christine) Brown of Loganville, Ga., April F. Payne of Semmes, Phyllis F. (Thedric) Law of Eight Mile, Tania F. Preyer of Mobile, Jacqueline K. Yelder of Riverdale, Ga., and Jack M. (Angelia) Yelder III of Jacksonville, Fla.; five siblings, Eliza Myers of Moss Point, Miss., Dorothy Beaman of San Jose, Calif., Pearl Brown of Pascagoula, Miss., Earl (DeLisa) Brown and Linda (Richard) Lang, both of Gulf Port, Miss.; 14 grandchildren, Roderick S. Brown Jr., Alecia S. Brown, Thedric Dillon Law, Carly A. Law, Gennasis T. Law, Matthew B. Preyer, Nicholas S. Preyer, Michael K. Payne Jr., Mariah A. Payne, Jordan C. Porter, Jack Mason Yelder,  Madison M. Yelder, Hunter E. Yelder and Bailee Elizabeth Meta Yelder; and one great-grandchild, Lylah B. Preyer; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including devoted the Rev. Robert Collings, Berthina Howell, Celestine Fikes, Dora Robinson, Hazel Tooks, Carrie Brown, Paralee Fields and Barbara Whisenhunt.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill A. Fields Jr. the father of the children; her father and mother; and siblings, Botney Brown, James “Bo” Brown, Elouise Brown Rowser, Juanita Brown Williams, Betty Brown Walton and Sallie Brown Matthews; and a beloved, granddaughter, Zanna A. Preyer.
