Mother Retha Love Bettis was born in Grove Hill , Alabama , August 11, 1927 and departed her sweet life on Friday, June 9, 2023. She was the loving daughter of Sis. Dollie Roper Love , Mr. Braxton Love and Mr. Frank Foster, who all preceded her in death,
Mother Bettis and her late loving husband , Bro. James Bettis, who preceded her in death, resided in Jackson, Alabama.
Mother Bettis was preceded in death by four children, Ms. Gloria Ann Dickinson , Ms. Victoria Patterson, Mrs. Elosie Sullivan, and Mr. Q.V. Chapman; four grandchildren and her sister, Mrs. Katherine ( John) Jefferson , Jacksonville, Fl.
She retired from the Clarke County Board of Education , where she was employed at Gilmore Elementary School, Jackson, AL, She also volunteered and was employed by the City of Jackson, AL at the Senior Citizen's Facility.
Until her health declined, Mother Bettis was a faithful , active and dedicated member of Mt Olive No. 2 Baptist Church , Jackson, AL. There she served as Senior Usher, Pastor Aide Board Member, Mission Society Member and Choir Member. She was the Oldest Mother of the great House of Faith. " To God Be the Glory !
Mother Bettis enjoyed singing , loved making friends and making you laugh with joy .
Mother Retha Love Bettis was the last Matriarch of the Bettis, Love, Foster and Roper Families.
The Matriarch of our families, Mother Retha Love Bettis , leaves to cherish her precious memories: devoted sons , Melvin Dickinson, and Kenneth( Voncile - Devoted ) Dickinson; devoted daughters, Carrie ( T.C. ) Reed, Jackie ( Van) Reed, Jane James, Teresa R. Bettis, and Mary Simmons; one son -in- law, Mr. Spencer Sullivan; twenty great-four grandchildren ; forty - two great grandchildren; twenty great, great, grandchildren; an uncle, Mr. Dauphine Roper Jr. ; a host of nieces, nephews , cousins, friends and all the residents of the Murphy Street Community, Jackson, AL ; Mt Olive No. 2 Baptist Church Family, Jackson, AL and the entire Staff of Jackson Health Care Facility , Jackson, AL, her second family, where the most excellent trusted love, care and kindness were given to her during her illness.
