Olander Robinson Jr. Obituary

Olander Robinson Jr. was born Jan. 18, 1970 to Mrs. Cobbie Robinson and the late Mr. Olander Robinson Sr. Mr. Robinson Jr. left this world for eternity on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

The sixth child of seven siblings, Olander sometimes acted like the baby of the family. At 8 years of age, after realizing baseball was not for him, he began taking piano lessons and the rest is history. Upon entering high school, he began playing the piano for his church, Wilson Chapel A.M.E. Church.

A graduate of Clarke County High School in the Class of 1988, Olander matriculated to Alabama State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. He began teaching at Lanier High School with the Montgomery County Board of Education as a music teacher. During his tenure at Lanier, he was able to develop a great rapport with the faculty, staff and especially the students. The students loved their “Mr. Robinson.”

Following numerous years at Lanier, he retired due to health issues. It didn’t take Olander long to realize that teaching young people was his passion. He began teaching again with the Macon County Board of Education at Booker T. Washington High School as a music teacher. Not only did he enjoy teaching choir, he especially enjoyed being a role model to the young girls and boys under his tutelage. His heart was the Booker T. Washington Choir, which he fondly named “The Golden Voices.”

Preceding him in death in addition to his father was a brother Grover Cleveland Robinson.

Junior, affectionately known by family and friends, leaves to cherish his loving memory his very supportive mother, Mrs. Cobbie Robinson; a devoted aunt, Verona Hill, who he called Aunt Vee; five devoted siblings, Herbert Chapman, Gloria Robinson, Laura Law, Gail Robinson and Kenneth (Sheddret) Robinson; 10 devoted nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Robinson, Christy Robinson, April Robinson, Angela Taylor, Douglas (Kourtney) Robinson, Roderick (Christy) Robinson, Eric (Anthony) Robinson, Ashley Robinson, JaCoby Robinson and Jasmine Portis; with a host of great-nieces and nephews and cousins; a special 6-year-old great-nephew, Bryce, they both affectionately referred to one another as “brother”; a special cousin, Mark Hill, who was more like a brother to him; with a host of friends, too numerous to name, including his best friend for more than 30 years, Mr. Henry Terry.
