Missionary Queen Esther Ivory, born on May 4,1937, answered God’s call to eternal rest on Jan. 19, 2022 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital in Grove Hill. She and husband, Leroy Ivory Sr., moved their family from Boligee during the sixties to reside in Whatley.
Missionary Queen Ivory was a heavily devoted and faithful woman. Becoming a member of the Whatley AOH Church of God more than four decades ago, she gained a license as an evangelist and began her duties as a missionary. She missioned within her church, traveled to other churches, and even the nursing home to deliver God’s message. She enlightened the minds and hearts of many. Missionary Ivory spent more than 30 years as a Sunday school teacher for the adult class. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, reading her Bible, and sitting on her porch admiring her flowers.
Missionary Ivory was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Davis and Bessie Davis Eatmon; husband, Leroy Ivory Sr.; son, Leroy Ivory Jr.; grandson, Jerome Deshon Ivory Sr.; and siblings, Peter Davis Jr., James Davis and Fairy Hyche.
Cherishing her memories are three sons, Tony Ivory Sr. (Brenda) of Gainestown, Jerome Ivory (Shaleatha) of Grove Hill and Gregory Ivory of Uniontown; five daughters, Norma Callier (Guyon) of Mobile, Gwendolyn Leggett (Chris) of Huntsville, Peggy Dickinson (Dwayne) of Jackson, Katina Ivory-Wright (Mack Jr.) of Monroeville and Erica Ivory of Whatley; three sisters, Ruby Tarver of Jackson, N.J., Louella Davis of Willingboro, N.J., and Ruthie Stuckey (Walter) of Birmingham; one sister-in-law, Regusta Payton of Tuscaloosa; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
