Robert Lee Chapman, a resident of the Zimco community of Grove Hill, passed away Jan. 28, 2022. He was born Aug. 6, 1939, the son of Willis Bumpers and Essie Lee Pugh.
Robert was a member of the St. Luke Baptist Church in Grove Hill. He had been in the logging industry for more than 50 years and assisted in maintenance at the Department of Human Resources for three years. He loved playing Dominoes, but his heart was the time spent with his children, grandchildren and family.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Essie L. Pugh-Edgar; father, Willis Bumpers; stepfather, Earnest Edgar Sr.; wife, Eunice Chapman, sons, Ira Lee Beckham Sr. and Sherman Lee Chapman; sister, Louise Chapman; and brothers, Thomas E. Chapman, Frazier Edgar Sr. and James Edgar.
Survivors cherishing his memory are his children, Nathan L. Chapman Sr. and Ruby G. (James) Bennett Jr.; goddaughter, LaShaye Welch; sisters, Ethel Foreman, Rosie Mose, Nettie Creighton, Mildred Chapman, Coma Lewis, Louise Scott and Izola Porter; brothers, Hugo Chapman and Earnest Edgar Jr.; eight grandchildren, three devoted, Shamyra (Ejay) Johnson, Nathan Lee Chapman Jr. and Kimmi S. Kidd; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary A. Chapman and Sonya Edgar; special friend, Ms. Velma Agee; and family friend and caregiver, Maranda Daffin.
