Rosetta Slater Obituary

Rosetta Johnson Slater, a resident of the Bladon Springs community, made her earthly transition on April 3, 2026 while at Mobile Infirmary Hospital. She was born on Dec. 19, 1940 to Mary White Johnson and L.D. Johnson in Koenton. 

 

Early in life as a child she united with the New True Light Baptist Church in Koenton. Later, she met and married Jimmy Lewis Slater. Following their marriage, Rosetta united with the Antioch Baptist Church in BladonSprings. She loved cooking, doing puzzles, sitting on her porch and watering her flowers. 

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jimmy Lewis Slater; grandson, Cedrick Slater; sisters, Charlene Williams, Nola Ree Williams, Mary Louise Rogers, Lula Mae Johnson; brothers, Earnest Lee Johnson, Robert Johnson and Joseph Johnson; sisters-in-law, Ollie Rose Johnson, Beatrice Rogers and Della Slater; and brothers-in-law, Theodore Slater Jr. and Frank Slater, Sr.  

 

Left to cherish her memories are, five sons, Jimmy (Irene) Slater Jr. of Fulton, Darin (George Ann) Slater of Gautier, Miss., Roger Johnson of Bulter, Dennis Slater and Earnest Slater, both of Bladon Springs; step daughter, Sondra Young of Jackson; two sisters, Annie Mae Johnson Slater of Bladon Springs and Milleray (Clyde) Hill of Collumburg; sisters-in-law, Elzora Kirksey and Bettie Slater, both of Bladon Springs; brothers-in-law, Bob Rogers of Bladon Springs and Marvin Williams of Coffeeville; nine grandchildren, Brittany Slater, Jermaine Slater, April Slater, Kadedrick Young, Bryton Young, Precious Boman, Samuel Boman, Rachel Pugh and Roderick Pugh; six great-grandchildren, Chance Bennett, Chase Bennett Jr., ChazlynBennett, Paisley Abston, Jordan Young and George Cheesboro Jr.; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; devoted friends, Earnestine Jackson, Bettye Ruth Young and Danny Earl Napier.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Johnnie Horn Jr.; and sister, Agatha Horn.  

 

He leaves to cherish his memories one son, DeMario King of Jackson; three sisters, Delores (Brent) McCauley of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Venita Love of Cleveland, Ohio, and LaVenes (Johnny) Mitchell of Montgomery; one brother, Tony (Candice) Horn of Mobile, AL; three devoted nieces, LaChandra (Demetrius) Turner of Trussville, NaShetta (Jermaine) Rowell of Stockbridge, Ga. and Breanna Mitchell of Montgomery; a devoted nephew, Dieago Bernard of Grove Hill; devoted cousins, Vanessa Taylor and Curtis Dickinson; devoted friends, Leonard Martin, Reginald Pippen and Ava Ely Pugh; as well as a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
