Rosie Mitchell Martin, a resident of the Vernal Chapel community of Jackson, traded time for eternity on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023 while at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile. She was born on Nov. 12, 1925 to Louvenia Travis Mitchell and Willie Mitchell. Rosie was salutatorian of her class. Following graduation, she later attended Spring Hill College.
Early in life she became a member of the Vernal Chapel Baptist Church. Rosie loved sewing, quilting, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, fishing, baking those delicious tea cakes, and cooking those delicious meals for her family. She loved reading her Bible and one of her favorite TV shows was Wheel of Fortune. She loved solving those puzzles.
Rosie loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her family loved her dearly. One of her favorite sayings was, “Don't worry, your gonna reap what you sow. It's coming up again!”
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Mack Martin Jr.; her children, Earl Martin, Randy Martin and Vivian Martin Jackson; her grandchildren, Eugenia Martin and Cameron Parks; sisters, Willie Mae Johnson, Ruth Ruggs and Ida Smith; and her brothers, Roosevelt Mitchell, Vernon Mitchell and Earl Mitchell.
Rosie is survived by her children, Larry Martin (Dorissa) of Killeen, Texas, Yvonne Bennett of Chicago, Ill., the Rev. Carl Martin (Darnella Ridgeway) of Jackson, Janice Nelson (Lawrence) of Little Rock, Ark., Althea Pope and Lillian Martin Parks, both of Jonesboro, Ga., Kathy Terry (Alonzo) of Fairburn, Ga., and Christine Wilson (Ronald) of Lucedale, Miss.; sisters, Bernice Pollenitz of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Ernestine Chapman of Arkadelphia, Ark.; brother, Charles Mitchell of Arkadelphia, Ark.; with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, two daughters -in- law, Gloria Martin and Teanna Martin both of Jackson, AL; and a host nieces, nephews and other relatives.
