Sarah Lee Pines was born Nov. 8, 1942 in Grove Hill to Jannie and Cossie Pines Sr. Sarah resided in Spring Valley, N.Y. until her passing Nov. 18, 2021.
Sarah attended Wilson Hall High School in Grove Hill and furthered her education in New York. While in New York, she loved writing poetry and stage plays for the church. She was a faithful member of her church.
Sarah worked for the Department of Education in New York in the special needs classroom and retired from the school system. Following retirement, she helped at a daycare center, where the children called her “Grandma.” Sarah also answered a Crisis Hot Line.
Left to cherish her loving memory are her sisters, Alice Billingsley of Cleveland, Ohio, Mary Pines Kid of Hartford, Conn., and Gloria Pines of Mobile; brothers, George (Tina) Pines of Columbus, Ga., Cossie (Mary Catherine) Pines Jr. of Jackson, Jack (Mary Gilliam) Pines of Fayetteville, N.C., and Daniel Pines of Mobile; brothers-in-law, Arthur Spears Jr. and Ezell Dawson; sister-in-law, Ida Pines; with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, Dec. 12, 1:30 p.m., at Zion No. 2 Baptist Church Cemetery in Grove Hill, with the Rev. William Jackson officiating.
Final life celebration has been entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home.
