Sgt. Timothy Reaves Obituary

Sgt. Timothy Wesley Reaves, a resident of the Choctaw Bluff community, made his earthly transition on Jan. 29, 2025 at his home with his wife by his side. He was born on Dec. 14, 1942 to Lessie B. Reaves and Herman Reaves Sr. in Ryan, Ga.

Timothy served his country for 23 years in the U.S. Army where retired. He received numerous awards, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and Marksman Badge. He met and married the love of his life, Mary Phelon. After relocating back to Choctaw Bluff, he was employed with Teledyne, Coca-Cola in Leroy and First Baptist Church in Jackson. He united with the New Canaan Baptist Church in Choctaw Bluff, where he served faithful as the culinary president, and was very dutiful about doing anything he could around the church and in the community until his health began to fail. During his spare time, he loved fishing and was a lover of people.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Henry Reaves; and sister, Mattie Small.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Mary Eliza Phelon Reaves of Choctaw Bluff; five sons, Timothy Reaves Jr., Christopher and Marca Reaves, both of North Carolina and Rodney Reaves of Washington, D.C. and Anthony Reaves of Huntsville; two daughters, Sonya Reaves of Washington, D.C. and Lucretia Robinson of Mobile; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman (Irene) Reaves of Miami, Fla.; three sisters, Joise Adams of North Carolina, Captula (John) Madison of South Carolina and Minister Carnettue Temper of Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers-in-law, Minister Wash Phelon, David (Chena) Phelon and Rivers (Nancy) Phelon; sister-in-law, Rannie Phelon Davis; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
