Theodore Slater Jr. was born May 4, 1945 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Slater Sr. of Bladon Springs. He departed this life Sept. 24, 2023 at his home. “God saw his tired face and said unto him, come to me you have done your job and I will give you rest.”
Theodore was a graduate of the Shady Grove High School. He also attended the Alabama A & M University in Huntsville. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp.
Employed for more than 40 years with Ciba-Geigy, he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 136.
Theodore confessed Christ and joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Bladon Springs, where he served as a clerk and superintendent of Sunday school until his health failed. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Della Slater.
Left to cherish his memories is his wife of more than 50 years, Bettye Slater; seven daughters, Ulissia (Earnest) Bumpers and Jawanika (Derrick) Gilmore, both of Coffeeville, Angie Slater of Montgomery, Terra Slater of Birminham, Kasandra (Cedric) Napier of Gilbertown, LaTaucha Slater of Bladon Springs and Melissa Jackson of Montgomery; two brothers, Jimmy (Rosetta) Slater and Frank (Annie) Slater Sr., both of Bladon Springs; sister, Elzora Kirksey of Bladon Springs; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; good friends, Jessie Gilmore and Theodore Taylor; with a host of nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
