Tommy Bettis, the son of the late Cecil Bettis and Gussie Longmire Chapman of Gosport, was born March 14, 1939. Tommy passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021.
Tommy joined the Pine Chapel No. 1 Baptist Church in Grove Hill at an early age. He married Georgiana Bettis Sept. 19, 1959. He was employed at Scotch Plywood for 42 years as a forklift driver. Tommy loved to cheer on the Clarke County High School football team and his favorite sports teams were the Auburn Tigers and Dallas Cowboys.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and children, Daryl Bettis, Melvin Bettis and Brenda Fail Ezell.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Georgiana Bettis of Grove Hill; his sister, Earlean Gray of Grove Hill; children, Levester (Carla) Bettis of Hammond, La., Edwina (the late Michael) Townsend of Grove Hill, Marvin (Erica) Bettis of Columbus, Ga., Tommy (Aretha) Bettis Jr. of Montgomery, Melissa (Bruce) Williams of Grove Hill and Tanya Davis Kidd of Grove Hill; devoted granddaughter, Lakisha Dickinson of Grove Hill; devoted niece, Marilyn Diann Hunt of Pine Hill; devoted aunt, Margaret (Arthur) Cruse of Mobile; with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, nieces and nephews.
Public viewing will be Friday, Aug. 27, from 5 until 7 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home, 203 East Ross St., Jackson. A graveside service will be Saturday, Aug. 28, 1 p.m., at the Mackey Branch No. 1 Cemetery, 35975 Hwy. 84, Gosport. The Rev. Tommie Lee Chapman will be the eulogist.
