Vernell Dorsett, Jr., a native of New Orleans and a resident of Gainestown, departed this life on Wednesday, July
17, 2024 while at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile. He was born on October 11, 1969 to Gertrude Dorsett and
Vernell Dorsett, Sr. He loved hunting and fishing and was employed with LP in Thomasville as a utility worker.
Vernell was a member of the Pine Chapel No. 2 Baptist Church in Toddtown.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Gertrude Dorsett and Vernell Dorsett, Sr. and brother, David Hamilton.
Vernell leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Rosa Foxx Dorsett of Gainestown; two sons, Lesley Winn
and Vernell Dorsett, III; one granddaughter, Xy'Lnn Dorsett, all of New Orleans, La.; stepson, Jason Foxx of
Gainestown; four brothers, Clarence (Novelle) Hamilton, Charles Dewitt and Matthew Dorsett, all of New Orleans,
La., and Thomas Dewitt, Jr. of Richmond, Calif.; sister, Alice Daffin of Mobile; two godchildren, Chris and Alysia
Daffin; with two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be Friday, July 26, from 3 until 4 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 27, 3 p.m., at
Jackson Memorial Funeral Home, 203 East Ross St., Jackson, AL 36545. Interment will follow in the St. Matthew
Baptist Church Cemetery in Manila.
Final life celebration has been entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home.
