Willie Barnes Jr., affectionately known as Jr., was born Nov. 14, 1970 to the late Willie Barnes Sr. and Bessie P. Law Barnes. Having lived in Toledo, Ohio the majority of his life, he attended Edward Drummond Libbey High School and was a member of the People’s Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Alvin Curry. He was a member of the Usher Board.
Jr. later moved to Whatley, where he attended First Baptist Church of Whatley. He loved to talk and share life stories with friends and family. Jr. also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings, win or lose.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Fannie Mae; and many other family members.
He leaves to cherish his memories his brother, Michael Elijah of Suffield, Conn.; aunt, Minnie Law of Mobile; uncles, Deacon David Law and Willie James (Denise) Law, both of Toledo, Ohio; nephews, Michael Jr., Brandon and Benjamin of Waterbury, Conn.; godsisters, Susan Fitzpatrick of Toledo and Ramona Barnes Clinton of Waterbury, Conn; with a host of family and friends.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 26, 3 p.m., at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Nicholas Harrell, pastor, and the Rev. Brian Chapman will be eulogist.
